Non-Surgical Vaginal Tightening

With the increasing age of women and after childbirth, numerous physical changes take place in their body. Among them, the most common is general vaginal laxity (looseness) and thinning of the vaginal walls due to expansion of the elastic muscles of the pelvic floor. This loss of elasticity and tightness of the vagina comes along with many mental and physical health issues.

The non-surgical vaginal tightening in Mumbai, juhu is performed by Dr. Chatali Mahajan Trivedi at Nanavati Superspeciality Hospital. It is a non-invasive, simple, and excessively convenient procedure to tighten the loose muscles of the vagina caused by aging, pregnancy, hormonal, or congenital reasons by restoring the strength and elasticity of the vaginal muscles. Although it provides limited or non-permanent results, the best part of it is that it can be done in less time (about 20 minutes) without the need of making incisions, use of anesthesia, and the extensive recovery process.

Why is vaginal tightening done?

Women of any age group can benefit from non-surgical vaginal tightening. Most women wish to restore their vaginal vitality for personal reasons. For some vaginal tightening may be desired for improving sexual pleasure, having better orgasms, and consequently boosting their confidence as well as spicing up their intimate relationships. Better sexual satisfaction is possible when vaginal muscles are again tighter and the strength and elasticity of the pelvic muscles have been restored, thereby allowing the vagina to contract again and increase friction as well as sensation during sexual activities. It may also help women who are psychologically distressed because of unsatisfying sexual intercourse and sexual dysfunction. Others may want to enjoy its functional benefits like treatment of embarrassing situations caused by:

  • Urinary stress incontinence
It is a condition that can cause leakage of urine in females when the loss of strength in the pelvic and vaginal muscles leads to loss of control over the urethra muscles and urinary bladder. Vaginal tightening can help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and regain the control the patient has over their bladder.
  • Vaginal atrophy (Atrophic vaginitis)
It is a condition wherein the vaginal lining becomes thinner, inflamed, and drier. This results in painful or uncomfortable (due to burning and itching of the vagina) sex experiences for both the partners. Vaginal tightening can promise to eliminate such problems by rejuvenating them. With this, women can also restore comfort in wearing tight lower garments.

Non-invasive vaginal tightening procedures

Non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation involves three common methods:

  1. Radiofrequency treatment,
  2. Laser treatment
  3. Dermal filler treatment with hyaluronic acid

The former two treatments are energy-based and focus on heating tissues and stimulating natural collagen production by healing the response of the body. They also help in angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) to encourage blood flow, provide better lubrication, and most importantly help in tightening the vagina. It has been reported that the surface cooling effect (to protect the vaginal skin) provided along with the passing of laser light or radiofrequency energy can lead to the tightening of the vagina. Further, all three treatments are discussed in detail.

  1. RadioFrequency or RF treatment
It is a cosmetic, rejuvenating procedure that involves the use of less intensity electromagnetic waves (similar to the waves produced by a microwave) to heat the vaginal tissues and subsequently tighten and tone the outer and inner areas of the vagina. This treatment can be done as a part of a mommy makeover to help females achieve/ restore sexual wellness. The RF treatment can address urinary incontinence, dissatisfactory sexual intercourse, and laxity of the labia majora and labia minora. It is not advisable for women who want to treat psychosexual dysfunction like anorgasmia and low sexual drive.
  2. Fractional CO2 Laser
In this non-ablative laser treatment, a completely (360 degrees) rotatable laser probe that can cover the entire vaginal wall is inserted into the vagina to heat the tissues in the vagina and significantly improve vaginal health. The laser light can penetrate the vaginal epithelium and reach the tissue of the lower layers to stimulate the fibroblast cells for vaginal collagen synthesis, hence making the vaginal skin firm, smoother, brighter, hydrated, and tighter. This treatment is recommended especially for women who have gynaecologic-related problems like darkening of the vagina, loose or dry vagina resulting in painful sex, and urinary incontinence especially while sneezing or coughing. The patient who receives this minimally-invasive treatment can expect no pain and fairly quick treatment of 5-10 minutes without anesthesia, reduced chances of infection, fast recovery, and zero downtime. It is advised not to insert any object (like tampons) in the vagina for at least five days post-treatment, including no sex. Vaginal laser treatment can be done in 3 sessions per year with an interval of 1-2 months only after having menstruation. The patient can start seeing the desired changes in the vagina within 4-6 weeks and full results may be achieved within 2 months. It can either be performed as a standalone treatment or used in conjunction with labiaplasty. 3. Dermal Filler Treatment
When women become old, have hormonal changes, or become pregnant, their labia majora (outer lips of the vagina) can lose tone and volume. One of the ways is to inject small amounts of fat into each side to recreate the desired fullness. However, the other effective and popular method of vaginal rejuvenation requested by women to significantly enhance the volume to their genital area (i.e. the vulva) for improved aesthetics is the use of dermal fillers. This treatment involves the use of hyaluronic acid as injectable fillers for plumping up or augmentation of the labia majora. This process is also known as “labia puffing” and it aims to reduce the aging signs like vaginal sagging and wrinkling. Before the treatment, topical anesthesia may be used to numb the treatment site. Following the use of injectable fillers, the patient can achieve instantly visible but temporary youthful and augmented labia majora. Maintenance sessions may be required once annually. Immediately after the treatment, the patient can expect mild redness and swelling as well as little bruising at the injection site. There is no downtime and the patients can immediately resume their normal day-to-day activities. This treatment is an FDA approved, safe procedure that is mostly done along with laser or radiofrequency treatments. Sometimes, fillers may be administered in the clitoris or/and G spot (an erotic area just inside of the vaginal wall) of the vagina for inducing orgasm.
